Your cafe customers like sitting outside, but the midday heat bakes them and the afternoon rain sends them rushing in or home. The terrace that should add seats sits unused half the day. An outdoor cafe tent closes that gap: a fixed cover that keeps the outdoor seating comfortable from morning to night, through the seasons. Semi-Permanent, Not a Take-Down Tent
The point of a cafe tent is that it stays put. Not lowered each night, not folded into a bag. So its priorities differ from a folding tent. The frame has to be sturdier to handle repeated wind and rain loads. The roof has to take daily sun without going brittle fast. The legs are best fixed to the terrace floor with anchors or heavy weights so it stays stable even in a strong afternoon wind.
For windy areas we recommend a powder-coated steel frame. Heavier than aluminum, but that weight is exactly what keeps the tent stable in one spot. Aluminum suits occasional movers, but for a cafe whose tent will not go anywhere, steel makes more sense and costs less.
A UV-Resistant, Leak-Free Roof
The sun is the main enemy of a permanently installed tent. UV light makes cheap material go brittle, crack, and fade fast. We use oxford 600D with a UV-resistant PU coating for semi-permanent use, or thick canvas if you want a warmer, more classic terrace feel. Both hold up under the sun without quick damage.
We tighten the roof seams so rainwater does not seep through to the seating. For rain that often comes in sideways, we add an optional sidewall or roll-down curtain you can lower in the rain and roll up when it clears. We print the cafe name and logo with sun-resistant outdoor ink, so your branding stays readable even after the tent has stood for months.
Size That Follows the Terrace Layout
A 3x3 meter module is the common starting point. One module covers several table-and-chair sets, and if your terrace is long, modules can be lined up into one continuous cover. But cafe terraces are rarely a perfect square. Some bend at a corner, some run long and narrow along the building edge, some have to dodge a tree or a post. For that we build a custom size following the building line, so no chair is left outside the cover and exposed to rain.
Before production, we ask for the terrace measurements and location photos, or run a survey if needed. From there we draw up a recommendation for the number of modules, the size, and the anchor points so the result fits your space.
Details Cafes Often Miss
A few small things decide whether a cafe tent is pleasant day to day. The right roof height lets staff pass without stooping and keeps smoke from a stove or grill from getting trapped under the roof. Enough roof pitch sends rainwater straight off to one side instead of pooling in the middle and dripping onto a table. If your cafe stays open late, we suggest running a cable path for hanging lights along the frame, so the seating stays lit without cables strewn about.
Roof color affects comfort too. A dark roof absorbs heat and makes the area under it warmer at midday, while a light color reflects some of it back. If your cafe gets a lot of daytime use, we usually suggest a light color with a contrasting logo, unless your brand identity calls for a dark color. Pricing depends on total size, roof material, frame type, and print complexity. A semi-permanent tent is usually a one-time investment for years of use, so we advise against skimping on the roof material, since that is the part that fails fastest when chosen wrong. Once the design is approved and the deposit is in, production runs and we install or ship as agreed.
